Lipase
Lipase is an enzyme that assists in the breakdown and digestion of fat in the body and arteries. Lipases perform essential roles in the digestion, transport and processing of dietary lipids, modulating lipoprotein metabolism. The activity of two lipases - lipoprotein lipase and hepatic lipase - is known to affect the risk of atherosclerosis.
All cell membranes and other structures are made up of lipids, thus an adequate supply of essential fatty acids in the diet are important to ensure viable cells.
Lipase is the primary digestant used to split fats into fatty acids and glycerol.
