Hi, I am a 64 year old male. I had a Cerebral Haemorrhage in 97, Kidney stones crushed and HIFU treatment to remove prostate cancer in 2004. I lead a reasonably active lifestyle generally walking each morning.
At present I am very concerned about my lack of concentration and my short term memory recall (which has been deteriorating since the haemorrhage and was my prime reason for retiring). I eat to excess.
Since 1989 I have lived with constant pain in my right heel. (I have done the rounds without any diagnosis or relief)
Whilst in China recently I started experiencing regular pain in my right knee (an anti inflammatory provides relief). But I am not keen on taking drugs if I can avoid it (apart from 1000mg per day of Teveten) for Hypertension.
I have started taking: Ginko, Brahmi, Mega B (2 weeks ago). This week after 10 days of taking 1 x 200mg Celebrex I have started taking 3 capsules of Glucosamine daily. I don't believe that I am suffering depression but recognise that I need to change things around. Any suggestions please?
Answer: from Nicolien
Our Neuro-Natural Memory may well be helpful for you as it is targeted towards memory and concentration. You can find more information about this by going to the products section of our website.
If you decide to continue taking Celebrex I would suggest discussing the possibility of taking our Neuro-Natural with your physician before you begin. This is because of the small amount of lithium (0.056mgs) present. If you do take it, allow a gap of 3 hours between the NN Memory and the Celebrex.
Regarding heel pain and knee pain, you could well find that our Arthrit-Eze could be very beneficial. It contains many strongly anti-inflammatory ingredients as well as anti-pain substances. If you check out the details of this product on the website you will also find some info on Celebrex which is worth reading
In addition our Omega 3/DHA fish oil esters may also be helpful for both your memory and your inflammation. We have also produced a new product in which we combine our Omega 3 with a high potency New Zealand green lipped mussel extract which is very good for inflammation and is a cheaper alternative to our Arthrit-Eze.
Should you decide to take the Arthrit-Eze, you can then eliminate taking the glucosamine you are currently taking.

Question: from (Name withheld by editor) (Subject: Bone Density...)q2m2
My partner is 40 and after undergoing a Dexa bone scan, the results showed very accelerated bone density loss - i.e. calcium deficiency. Most unusual for a person of her age! The official verdict was, she has "osteopenia".
Some 8 years ago, she visited the family planning clinic, and was put on the contraceptive "Depo Provera" with no advice regarding side effects etc, and remained on it for 5 years. Then she was put on Implanon and has been using this implant for the last 3 years. She is now getting this implant removed and has been put on the oestrogen pill. She has been advised to modify her diet by upping her intake of dairy foods to include yoghurts and drinking low fat milk as well as taking 1000mg calcium pill daily.
My question: Is there any way she can recover her bone density levels, and if so, what are the optimum steps she can take to radically improve her situation. She continues to take Total Balance Women’s Plus and has been so doing for approx 2 years. Your help would be most appreciated as I have little faith in the medical profession here.
Answer: from Warren
Firstly, I don’t believe that it is in her best interest to increase her intake of dairy food, including yogurts and milk. In fact she should not drink milk at all. The amount of calcium uptake from these foods is minimal and grossly overstated. The long term effects on her health through increased levels of these foods are likely to be negative.
A calcium pill on its own will do very little as calcium needs other co-factors such as Vitamin D and Boron. I would strongly suggest that she does this:
Continue with the Total Balance as it contains most of the co-factors that she needs for good calcium uptake including strontium which is important for bones.
Add our calcium/phytonutrient supplement. We have been getting very good results with this as it seems to be a lot more effective than a normal calcium supplement because the phytonutrients help with the bio-availability of the calcium. A number of women have reported significantly increased bone density levels after taking it for 6 months.
If her budget can stretch enough for it she could also add our new Female Rejuvenator which is also good for bones.
She should also try to get to the gym 2 - 3 times a week and do some weight bearing exercise. This is very important for improving the bones. Bones, like muscle respond to weight bearing exercise. It really helps a lot.
She should also try to get a reasonable amount of sunshine on a regular basis, over as much of her body as possible. This helps bones a lot as it generates a much more potent form of Vitamin D than can ever be contained in a supplement.
Also, I think that she should consider alternatives to the oestrogen pill. There are too many risks associated with it. An alternative may be the mini pill. Some info about it at http://www.medic8.com/healthguide/articles/minipill.html
I think that it is something that should be researched as much as possible.
If her budget cannot stretch to points #2 and #3 then she should find a calcium supplement that uses the citrate form and also includes Vitamin D3 and Boron. This would be better than a ‘normal’ calcium carbonate tablet with nothing else. It would still be cheap.

Question: from Steve (Subject: Synthroid and Omega 3…)q3m3
I have slightly elevated blood pressure and cholesterol levels. I am thinking of adding Omega-3 supplement as a dietary supplement. I take Synthroid medication. Will your Omega-3 supplement interfere?
Answer: from Nicolien
There are no known interactions between Synthroid and Omega 3.
