I read your recent issue of Xtend-Life on cancer and I do agree that focusing more energy on preventing cancer is more efficient than using up resources on curing cancer. However, I think that cancer will still be cured eventually.
However, I'm not quite as optimistic as these guys:
http://www.imminst.org/film.php but given 50 years, do you still think it is unlikely for cancer to be cured?
Answer: from Warren
Thanks for sending the link. I watched all of it. Its certainly interesting listening to the variety of views which the video contained. Some I agreed with, and some I didn't.
Some of the people in the video are away with the 'fairies' and are going against all the fundamental rules of nature, and life itself. I am certainly a strong advocate of extending ones life as much as possible, but I also believe that such extension will come from knowing what nutrients are needed to enable the body to do its own magic in healing and repair. There are millions of reactions taking place in the body every day and I don't believe interventions by medical science and technology will be able to cover all the components needed for healthy living.
As for immortality, that in my opinion is nonsense, although a form of mortality may be able to be achieved by somehow keeping the brain alive and integrating it into an artificial body. Don't know that this appeals though. :) But...immortality within a 'normal' human body is a pipedream.
Sure, they can give you a replacement heart, even make an artificial one...but they can't deal technically with the millions of capillaries in the body that are needed to circulate the blood. Also, unless a person gets the fundamentals right which is the correct diet then all the interventions in the world will not save them. It would be like trying to plug holes in a leaky boat!
It’s interesting that no one in that presentation raised the issue of diet? Unfortunately this is in line with general public desire. Eat and do what you want and technology will ultimately provide a pill or technique to fix the damage!
The research will be helpful and I, like you and many others hope to ultimately benefit from it...but I think that the real benefits of much of this research will be in the form of improved knowledge of what causes cells to deteriorate and how you can get the right nutrients to the cells to avoid that deterioration in the first place. That's the area that interests me because this is doable.
I think that they cannot really use the analogy of 'landing on the moon' to demonstrate how far science has come. There is a world of difference between being faced with a problem that can be overcome using the laws of physics as opposed to the complexity of the human body, much of which is governed by nature itself.
Anyway, those are my thoughts.
PS. One of the facts that they get wrong is about the average life span. It has changed very little over the last hundred years. The figures are skewed because of the massive change in infant mortality which has raised the average life expectancy.
PPS. And yes, I doubt that they will be able to cure cancer in the next 50 years. The best chance is developing new techniques to detect cancers whilst they are still in the promotion stage when it is relatively easy to deal with.

Question: from Roy (Subject: Blueberries and Mangosteen…)q2
Re your observations on Mangosteen in a recent newsletter! I see that it is now included in Amigo Health Juice which includes ACAI and Tibetan GOJI with Mangosteen.
However, I am more impressed with Dr Mercola's observations on the contents of Blueberry capsules as opposed to the contents of fruit juices. This is what he says:
"It is a known fact that most of the nutritional value of fruits and berries are compounded in and around the skin and flesh of the fruit.
Most people know that I am no fan of fruit juice. Fruit juices contain only a portion of the value of the whole fruit. Even freshly squeezed fruit juice has about eight full teaspoons of sugar per eight-ounce glass. This sugar is typically a fruit sugar called fructose, which is every bit as dangerous as regular table sugar since it will also cause a major increase in insulin levels.
This doesn't mean that you should avoid fruit, just fruit juice. When the fruit is intact and whole, its fiber will somewhat moderate the release of fructose into the bloodstream - as well as somewhat moderate insulin release.”
I am inclined to take the blueberry capsules as well as, and not in place, of Total Balance but would be glad of your thoughts.
Answer: from Warren
I think that Dr Mercola sums it up very well.
He is quite right about what he says. Also Blueberries are excellent substances because of their anthocyanins.
However, if you are taking Total Balance there is no need to take additional blueberry capsules as all the important actives are included in TB. Even better they are protected in their passage through the stomach to the upper intestine where they are the most bio-available.
Blueberries have a similar profile to Bilberry and Reservatrol which is extracted from the Grape Skin and is even more potent. They are both in Total Balance. These combined with other herbals are much more potent than blueberry extract taken on its own.
We have just recently expanded the amount of information that we provide on the active ingredients in all our products. If you would like to go to
http://www.xtend-life.com/product_detail.php?product_id=6&lang_id=1&menu_id=15
and then click on ingredients you will see the active ingredients in the various extracts and then be able to compare to blueberries.

Question: from Charles (Subject: Silicon and Bones…)q3
Just browsing through your new website and must congratulate you on a very high standard of material you have put together. But on browsing the health condition area for bones I was disappointed that in your recommendation for natural health benefits nothing was mentioned about silicon for bone health when recent research are pointing to the effectiveness of this trace mineral.
I notice that Life Extension in USA is promoting this element even through articles and write ups. Is there any particular reason for not touting this element or are you not keeping up to date on this element? Your comment would be much appreciated. Thank you and keep up the great work.
Answer: from Warren
I discussed this with Prof. Dr. A Munem and he agrees that silicon is an important component for bone health. This is why we use silicon dioxide as one of our main excipients in all our tablets. In the case of our Arthrit-Eze we put in additional silicon in the form of sodium metasilicate.
