Question: From Marty. (Subject: Natural Hormonal Replacement...)q1
I have been enjoying reading your articles for some time now and have a question.
My wife is on a natural hormone replacement prescription for about a year and it does seem to be of some help. However, I believe that one of your articles mentions your women's version of Total Balance as an alternative.
Would you elaborate on this please?
Answer: From Nicolien.
Yes, our Total Balance Women's Plus is a viable option. It is a multi nutrient that has been designed for women to balance and optimize overall health and to help relieve menopausal and (pre)menstrual hormonal imbalances. It contains an herbal blend for women who need a hormone balancing effect to help for example hot flushes, post menopausal complaints, osteoporosis etc.
If your wife would be interested to try TB, I would recommend that she would take it in the full daily dose of 6 tablets daily (3 tablets after getting up and 3 more in the afternoon. To view the ingredients and for more info please click here.

Comment: From Dr R. L. McCarthy PhD a newsletter subscriber. (Subject: Coffee...)Migraines and associated Blood Pressure problems are primarily caused (in the majority of cases) by excessive COFFEE intake as 1.5 cups or more can send one into some major discomfort! I talk to many around the World who have had COFFEE "side effects" and I simply show them the "curve" occurring at 1.5 cups of average Coffees. (natural) And later following my recommendations, their troubles DIS-appear! LOL!
About 1.5 cups of average coffee peaks out at 350 mg of Caffeine where the asymptotic curve peaks. Anything beyond goes into a straight-UP curve of excess Blood Pressure and other nasty side effects. Vaso-constriction is the cause. Anything up to 350 mg will dilate the blood veins...but anything BEYOND this amount (1.5 cups) will constrict the veins (Vaso-constriction) and cause a lot of unpleasant symptoms and major problems in some cases. Oddly enough this Information is little known and the old famous "COFFEE NERVES" is the result. LOL! Blessings.
Answer: From Nicolien.
Thank you for your comments, Dr McCarthy. I am sure the coffee drinkers amongst our subscribers will appreciate this information. It is interesting that for some people with migraines drinking coffee actually helps! As soon as they feel a migraine coming (caused by widening of blood vessels) they may benefit from taking one (or 2) cups of coffee, which helps to constrict the blood vessels and helps to limit the migraine. This is somewhat contradictory to Dr McCarthy's comments but also valid. My conclusion is that every person needs to listen closely to their own body to assess what is best for them.

Question: From Cho. (Subject: Duodenal ulcers...)q3
I have just started taking two of your supplements, "Total Balance for Men" and "Neurological Formula". Are you able to advise me if the supplements will help in the healing of duodenal and esophageal ulcers and also hemorrhoids, which I have. I am presently taking medication for ulcerations, which I have been doing for about 10 years but it has never been completely healed. Please advise.
Answer: From Nicolien.
Total Balance (TB) and the Neurological Formula (NF) would certainly contribute to healing the mucus lining of your esophagus and duodenum, as they contain nutrients such as natural beta-carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, Tocotrienols, bioflavonoids, hesperidin, lutein, zeaxanthin, bilberry, cranberry, blueberry, zinc and glutamine that are important in helping to heal from ulceration.
Other things to consider for duodenal and esophageal ulceration are: taking up to 500 mg of glutamine 3x daily (important nutrient to heal the gut lining), drink aloe vera juice (up to 1 liter daily) when there is active bleeding of an ulcer, and taking bismuth subcitrate 240mg twice daily before meals. Bismuth is a naturally occurring mineral that can act as an antacid and has activity against Helicobacter pylori (often a causal agent in gastric and duodenal ulcers). Bismuth may cause a harmless temporary darkening of tongue and/or stools. Another natural remedy that may be helpful in duodenal and gastric ulceration is deglyrrhizinated licorice (DGL).
It is also beneficial in to eat a diet high in dietary fiber (helpful for hemorrhoids as well), and drink fresh cabbage juice and other vegetable juices regularly.
Regarding hemorrhoids, drinking water with a high-fiber meal or a fiber supplement (psyllium) often helps in hemorrhoids. Flavonoids (such as rutin, hesperidin, quercetin, present in Total Balance) have been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects and/or to strengthen blood vessels and may be beneficial for people with hemorrhoids.
An astringent herb for topical use is witch hazel, which is typically applied to hemorrhoids three or four times per day in an ointment base or as a lotion. It would be good if you let me know which medications you are using, so I can check for any possible interactions with the mentioned natural remedies and our TB and NF.
