Question: From Linda. (Subject: Cracked Lips...)q1
Is there some remedy for excessively painful, cracked and chapped lips? This condition has gone on for over 6 years and when products such as carmax are used, blistering is the result. Thank you for helpful input on this.
Answer: From Nicolien.
Chapped lips can be a symptom of vitamin B2 deficiency. It may be that you may benefit from a multi-nutrient such as our Total Balance (TB) which helps to optimize overall health and has beneficial effects on skin health, and also contains vitamin B2. To view TB please click here.
You may like to know that foods that are rich in vitamin B2 are: Avocados, beans, currants, eggs, milk and dairy, organ meats, sprouts, wholegrain cereals, yeast and broccoli.

Comment: From Rosemarie. (Subject: Iron and Protein...)q2
What would cause protein to be in someone's urine. my fathers urine was tested and they found protein in it. Also, what would prevent someone's body from assimilating iron.
Answer: From Nicolien.
Regarding iron, iron is depleted by coffee, black tea (do not drink within 20 min. of an iron containing food), fizzy drinks, alcohol, aspirin, bran, antacids, and oxalic acid containing foods. Factors that increase demand are: not having enough stomach acid (achlorhydria), copper deficiency, bleeding (menstruation also), pregnancy, being very young (young children), old age.
Dietary sources of iron are e.g. red meat, poultry, fish, herbs such as dandelion leaves, chickweed, nettle and raspberry leaf, steamed spinach, kelp and seaweeds, parsley, broccoli, green beans, tomato juice, kidney beans, shrimp, clams, and artichokes.
Regarding protein in the urine, this can be caused by a variety of causes, such as:
Putting your father on a good multi nutrient supplement such as our Total Balance would benefit his overall health. As you get older the body does not absorb nutrients as well from the food and supplementation is really quite essential to make up for these deficiencies which inevitably lead to health problems.

Question: From Frederick. (Subject: Ulcers...)q3
With regard to last weeks question about duodenal and esophageal ulcers I would like to make a comment if I may.
You may need to warn the person that symptoms they interpret as ulceration sometimes may indicate cancer. Before he starts medication that could mask a cancer he ought to see a specialist. A friend of mine self-medicated for ulcers and acid reflux. I warned him about the possibility of cancer because my doctor had warned me. I had a scope done that indicated no cancer and took medication for a year. My friend however delayed getting a checkup and continued to self-medicate until the condition became so bad he had to have a scope done. His doctor found cancer and he died about a year later.
Answer: From Nicolien.
That's a very good point Frederick. I appreciate you raising it.
