Question: From Ron. (Subject: Raw Milk...)q1

I've been taking your Total Balance, Omega 3 and Cholesterol formula for about a week and half now. I'm not sure how my cholesterol's doing, but I do seem to feel better than before taking these supplements. I won't know how my cholesterol's doing until July when I'm tested again. I have modified my diet. I'm trying to stay away from breads and sugar as best I can.

Now to my question! What are your feelings about Real Milk over Pasteurized/Homogenized milk? We have a website here in the States (www.realmilk.com) dedicated to the reintroduction of real milk back into our diets. I'm concerned not only for my own health, but especially for the health of my 6 year old daughter. She loves milk as do I, but I want to make sure it's not affecting our health negatively by consuming it.

I have been trying to find a local supplier of Real Milk, but I'm having a tough time finding one. I would greatly appreciate your feedback. Thank you.

Answer: From Nicolien.

With regard to real (raw) milk, I am indeed convinced that drinking raw milk is better for a lot of people who have an allergy to milk, or in general to avoid developing milk intolerance or other health problems from milk.

As far as I understand it, raw milk naturally contains enzymes needed for digesting it, and in pasteurized and homogenized milk these have been destroyed by the heat. Warren Matthews has written an article in one of our newsletters about milk, you may be interested to read it by going to our Xtend-Your Life Newsletter archives and clicking on 28th April 2004.

Question: From Maria. (Subject: Vitamin E and Tocotrienols...)q2

Does the vitamin E in your Total Balance products contain tocotrienols? Does it contain the full spectrum of vitamin E components?

Answer: From Nicolien.

Total Balance contains natural vitamin E (D-alpha tocopherol) plus tocotrienols. None of the vitamin E's are full spectrum. To ensure that you have a full spectrum you must combine it with Tocotrienols which is why we include it in Total Balance along with the natural Vitamin E.

However, there are variations of Tococtrienols... some of which are better than others. We use the Tocomin brand of Tocotrienols which are considered the best in the industry. If you would like to know more about tocotrienols you can click here.

Question: From Ken. (Subject: General Info...)q3

I am a 63 year old semi-retired male. I am in general good health. My cholesterol has always been in the mid to high 200's, with my HDL around 45 - 50. I refuse to take Lipitor or any other statin. I have been taking a multitude of over the counter vitamins and supplements. (2 Carlsons ACES which contain {10,000 iu Beta Carotene, 1000 mg Calcium Ascorbate, 400 iu D-Alpha Tocopherol 100 mcg Selenium, 100 mg calcium ascorbate}, 1 Centrum silver, 5-10 Kyolic Garlic caps with Brewers Yeast, 12 Metamucil caps, 1 1200 mg Lethicin softgel, 2 Omega Cardio factors 3-6-9 Fish + Borage softgels, 1 400 mg Folic Acid, 1 160 mg Saw Palmetto softgel, 1 81 mg Aspirin and 1500 mg Glucosamine Sulfate with 245 mg Potassium Chloride. I take no prescription medications. I am 5' 7" and weigh 175 lbs {I wish I could be 150-155 lbs but can't seem to get there}.

I exercise regularly though not strenuously by walking or riding my exercycle. I try to watch my fat intake and eat plenty of fruits and veggies. I have had stress tests that show no problem. The supplements that I take are from a hodgepodge of various manufacturers. I have recently done a lot of research on the net and found your website.

You seem to be more interested in your customer's health than in selling something. I used to have 15 - 20 kiwis working for me and never met a finer or more honest group of people in my life. There are several of them that live right there in Christchurch.

The reason for this long email (I do apologize for that) is that I would like someone to tell me what I should be taking on a daily basis.

Answer: From Nicolien.

Nice to hear your comments about New Zealanders! Although I am Dutch and now living in New Zealand, I can share your sentiments about New Zealanders. They do their best and in general are a pretty honest lot... which is why I like living here so much... and working at Xtend-Life.

With regard to which products would be best for you I would like to suggest that you use our multi-nutrient Total Balance Men's Plus along with our Omega 3 as your foundation supplements.

If you are concerned about your cholesterol levels you could also add our Cholesterol formula to your regime. However, our Total Balance will help control mildly elevated cholesterol levels.

I notice that you also take Glucosmine Sulfate. If you have joint or arthritis problems you could add our Arthrit-Eze to this regime as this will help you a lot! If you should decide to take these supplements, you can eliminate quite a number of the products you are currently taking, such as Carlson's ACE, Centrum Silver, the Omega Cardiofactors, Folic Acid, Saw Palmetto, and Aspirin.

With regard to aspirin, if this has been prescribed by a doctor it would be best to consult her/him about this. If it is self-prescribed, fish oil has indeed similar effects to aspirin, and much more health benefits, and no side effects. For more info on this click here.

In the archives of our newsletters, there are a few articles Warren Matthews has written about the subject of aspirin. You may be interested to read these please go to our Xtend-15sec-News and click on 26th November 2003 and 5th May 2004.

If you wish to reduce your weight further it is very important to stop eating sugar and refined carbohydrates such as white flour, cookies, cakes, white bread, pasta etc and processed foods. Eat plenty of protein-foods such as lean meat, fish, poultry, etc, and eat fiber rich foods such as oats, bran, psyllium and fresh garlic.

Most of all avoid transfats and hydrogenated oils (deep fried foods, chips, cookies, margarine, fast food). Warren Matthews has also written about this subject in our Weight Loss report. You can access it by going to the special reports section on our website.

Also try to become more familiar with foods that are high on the glycemic index so you can avoid them as they can contribute to weight gain. (Examples of these foods are: peas, carrots, squash, bread, bananas, etc.) These are all high in sugars, and as such contribute to a quick rise of blood sugar levels and to formation of triglycerides in the body, leading to weight gain and insulin resistance.
